The Myers Turning woodworking shop is made up of 3 artists located in River Falls, Wisconsin. We are self taught woodturners who enjoy the challenges that each project presents. At Myers Turning we take great pride in every pen, pencil, and bowl that we turn. Our creative process begins by choosing a combination of wood and hardware and concludes after carefully turning the pen to bring out each item's natural beauty No two of our creations are alike and every one is a result of meticulous work and exacting specifications.
Turning Pens the Myers Way
We take great pride in each of our hand-crafted pens. Each pen is an opportunity to create something truly unique that we are sure our customers will enjoy for a lifetime. The first step in the process of crafting a pen is selecting a wood and hardware combination. We work with over 75 species of wood and 25 different hardware styles! After determining our wood and hardware combination, we cut the wood into two equal lengths and drill a vertical hole down the center of the blank. We then insert a metal tube into each of the two sections which serves to support the pen throughout its lifetime. Next is our favorite part: turning the pen. Our shop has three lathes and countless cutting tools that help us shape your pen. Once the pen is roughly the shape of the finished product, we sand each pen up to 12,000 grit sandpaper-that's smoother than window glass! When we are satisfied that your pen is 100% scratch free, we buff the pen and apply multiple layers of protective finish. After the pen has dried it is assembled and filled with ink. The final step in the process includes a quality control inspection to make sure the pen is in perfect working order before we send the pen to you, our valued customer.
